How to avoid a forex scam

Forex Trading – Is It Legitimate?

Forex (Foreign Exchange) is not a scam and certainly can be a credible and legitimate way of making money. However, whenever there are large sums of money involved, the shadier elements of society are never lagging. There are plenty of nefarious brokers that target novices, experienced traders and everyone else in between.
Forex scams are unfortunately common. At Broker Complaint Registry we have seen many forex, binary options and CFD scams emerge. Here are a couple of things to look out for whether you are an experienced trader or a complete novice.

Regulated Forex Broker?

The very first step to take to avoid becoming a victim of a Forex scam is to make sure you open an account with a regulated broker. There are many dominions that regulate Forex trading including the FCA in the UK, ASIC in Australia, and the CFTC and the NFA in the United States. Do not solely rely what is on the broker’s website. Check them out online and make sure they are regulated. It is simple to place a regulation on a website so use the resources available to you such as Be sure to call the forex broker and find out who they are and what they do. Do not get pressured into opening an account unless you are 100% at ease.
However, merely checking to see whether the broker is regulated is not enough. There are numerous regulatory agencies such as CySEC that do not apply strict enough oversight and fail to implement harsh penalties for any brokers that violate their rules.

Guaranteed ROI

Any broker that guarantees a return on investment (ROI) is a surefire scam. For example, a “broker” may be approached to invest your money with an organization that will trade on your behalf and promise yearly or monthly returns for as long as you keep investing with them. Many of these con artists promise 40-50 % of your invested capital guaranteed PER MONTH. These “returns” are absolutely unsustainable and almost always involve other investors continuing to add money to the pot. This is called a Ponzi scheme. Remember Bernie Madoff anyone?
Forex trading is risky and while there are plenty of individuals who can consistently earn money trading, no one will say it is a guarantee.

Fund Withdrawal

If the forex broker or account manager tries to prevent you from withdrawing your funds or your return on investment, then you know that it is a forex scam. There is absolutely no reason that it should take anymore than a few business days for your money to be returned. Even some regulated brokers have refused to allow their clientele to withdraw. Take OTCapital as an example. They are regulated by ASIC, but Broker Complaint Registry has dealt with numerous individuals that have been unable to withdraw their funds.

Black Clouds

The first droplets of rain smack the plane glass window. I stand on one side, fiddling the small recorder in one hand, and nursing a glass of scotch in the other. On the other side of the window an expansive city sprawls out in every direction, and high above it the storm that has been brewing is finally starting to burst. The rain droplets will soon be a downpour. Storms make me nervous. A thin bolt of lightning rips through the sky, momentarily illuminating the fat, heavy, dark clouds. They were plenty. No stars will show tonight. Another silent streak of light, and I see the normally bustling street below has gone quiet, save for a sparse sprinkle. Yellow cabs scurry about like insects, collecting their payments as they drop off their late night patrons.
The faint sound of rolling thunder can be heard, muffled by the thick glass of my office. Eighteen stories up, I see the rain intensifying before those below. Normally, the dampening of the window prevents all outside's important for the patients to feel safe. Now, long after my office has closed, I find the thunder far more jarring than the constant whirring of the air-conditioning system, always pumping in oxygen that somehow smells fresh and artificial simultaneously. I understand. I take another short sip of my drink and turn away from the upcoming turmoil, returning to my desk. I find my eyes drawn to the framed certificates and degrees hung about my walls, questioning their ultimate meanings.
I know that I'm safe in my office, my own personal slice of the world...but again, storms make me nervous. They didn't always, quite the opposite in fact, as a child I was rather fond of the whip-cracks in the sky, the smell of fresh rain. My distaste for them, I can actually pinpoint. Its a direct correlation of one of my patients. The one patient that scared me. Now, I've dealt with some truly sick and disturbed minds in over twenty-five years as a psychologist...but only one has ever truly frightened me. I currently hold a tape recording of our one and only session in my hand. Jack Lowe. The man was a lunatic, no doubt about that. His delusions tearing his mind pushing him further and further from reality as each second ticked away.
It was in this very office that I met Jack, and sometimes, on nights like these when I find myself unable to pry his words free from my mind, I can almost see him sitting across from me, cigarette dangling in his hand. On nights like that, like tonight, the only remedy for my obsession is to listen to the recording and drink.
I loosen my tie as I place the recorder on my desk and then I sip my scotch. I pull the bottle from the small shelf hidden under my desk and place it next to the small black device, inside of which a tape labeled "Lowe, J. Ses.1" resides. I hesitate for the briefest second before pressing play, leaning back in my chair and shutting my eyes.
"Marnie, please send in Mr. Lowe." I hear my own voice coming from the speaker.
Its so vivid...the picture in my mind that hearing his name conjures. I hear shuffling before the unmistakable sound of my office door squeaking open. I remember so clearly the man who walked through, and into my life all of those years ago. He was thin, one step above emaciated in fact, baggy clothes that wore the man instead of the other way around. He clearly had Norwegian ancestry, dirty blonde shoulder length hair that was quite messy, his unshaven cheeks gave way to a thicker patch of blonde hair on his chin that I think must have been a goatee of sorts before he had let himself go. Immediately I saw a horrendous case of insomnia, the purple skin around his sunken eyes would have been a give away for even someone wholly untrained in mental illnesses.
"Have a seat Mr. Lowe." I hear the smile in my voice.
"Just Jack..." A new voice joins the cast, and I feel the hairs on the back of my neck prickle hearing his soft almost whisper once again. I down the remainder of my glass and swiftly refill it.
"Hello Jack, I'm Doctor Harkins. Your paperwork here says you're dealing with..." I hear the sounds of papers shuffling, and silently mouth the next word in tandem with my past self. "Hallucinations?"
A period of silence follows on the recording, but my clear recollection fills in the gap. Jack, with his eyes locked on the floor nodded slowly, almost imperceptibly. There was such a distraught feeling surrounding the man and I can still feel the uneasiness shoot through my veins like ice.
"How long has this been going on, Jack?" I asked, no hint of the smile in my words.
"Its...its not a... persistent thing doc, it happened one time...I can't sleep though, I can't eat, I can't..." He trailed off. I remember him placing his hands softly on his face and rubbing the heels of his palms into his eyes. "I'm losing my fucking mind, doc...I need...something." Jack said the words with a shaky, uncertain tone.
"What do you think you need, Jack?" I asked.
"That’s why I'm here, right? To figure out a way to forget, yeah?" A slight hint of agitation permeated his voice.
"Forget...let's go back said the hallucinations were an isolated event?" I asked.
"My Dad died, yeah, and I know shrinks like to think everything is linked to something with some or another parent thing, but it wasn't that. See, dad and me, we weren't close...not since I was a kid. He always paid more attention to my sister, even back then...she's the one who called me to tell me the news." The words flowed hectically from Jack's mouth and I remember the sheer desperation in his eyes when he looked up at me, they pleaded, begged me to hear him out and not jump to conclusions.
"Alright, go on Jack, I'd like to hear about everything." My voice conveyed a sense of calm, attempting to ease Jack, help him relax.
"You uh, care if I smoke?" He asked. I recall waving my hand in a "by all means" gesture. The soft sound of metal scraping a flint followed.
"So yeah, Dani called me and said Dad died, it's sad, but it happens right? I ask her what happened..." Jack jabbed his now burning cigarette in my direction. "Cancer, of course. What else? So, I ask her about the funeral. Two days, no problem, I'll drive down to Connecticut, spend some time with the family and honor the old mans legacy. I packed up some I can't believe I'm telling you this, you're gonna think I'm out of my fuckin' mind...hell, I probably am." The soft hiss of his cigarette burning followed his words as he took a long drag.
"I'm not here to judge you Jack. I'm here to listen to you and come up with a way to help. I don't think you're crazy." I assured him.
The cold, skeptical look he gave me, crossing his hands between his knees, dangling his sticks with me to this day, and I truly believe that I'll carry it to my grave. I pour my third glass.
"So I'm packing some things for a few days, and I hit the road first thing in the morning. I called Dani as soon as I left the city, telling her I'd be there tomorrow, yeah? Yeah. She tells me, 'yeah, okay, let me call Ray-' that's her husband, right, so she says 'let me call Ray, see if we can get the guest room set up in time, if not, Mom still has your old room set up back home'. She tells me she's gonna call back in fifteen, all good right?" Jack paused and looked at me inquisitively. He must have been aware of his frantic, almost manic speech pattern.
I nodded, again in unison with my past self, exactly as I remember. On cue, jack continued.
"So...I do what anyone does, toss the cell in the passenger seat and crank some tunes. I remember, some 90s boy band, but I was shame. I blasted it. It was nice out too. Green trees, blue sky. I rolled down the windows and remember, doc, I remember the air tasting and smelling so spite of the bad news I was feeling pretty damn great." He had glanced away at this, taking another draw off his cigarette. He felt ashamed. He thought it was wrong to feel good in light of a parents death.
"So would you say it was a pleasant drive?" I asked, beginning to pry, attempting to do exactly what his eyes had begged me not to and connect his unhealthy mental state to the death of his father.
"At first it wasn't so bad. Yeah, pleasant. But that didn't last. You know, you notice shitty drivers around you. You pay attention when cars behind or in front of you merge, or exit...but you never really pay attention to NOT having anyone else around you. It took me a while to realize that in two hours of driving I hadn't seen a single car besides mine. Now, it was still pretty early, so weird but not that weird. I did notice though that not one damned commercial had played on the radio. Just straight 90s hits..." The burning sound of cigarette paper again, followed quickly by another flick of the lighter.
Jack's leg began furiously tapping, and I recall wondering if it was anxiety or substance withdrawals.
"Dani hadn't called either." He continued after a moment. "She said 'fifteen' and it had been a couple hours by then. I just figured she got caught up dealing with Dad shit and had forgotten to call me back. Whatever, no biggie, so I pick up the phone, right, and I just punch in her digits...this is where I got fucked up, doc...because after two rings I heard that automated 'number no longer in service' message. I looked at my phone and sure enough it said Dani's name. I was confused, so I tried again, and again I got the 'dododedo'..." He imitated the electronic beeps, and raised his hands into a shrugging pose "...number not in service. You think I'm some kind of nut, yeah?" He finished, dropping his hands to his side.
"Not at all, Jack." I lied.
"Yeah, right. So anyway, I'm getting a little weirded out at this point, thinking something's wrong and then boom, it hits me. I try a different number. I call my job, back in the city. You guessed it, a robot telling me to fuck off 'cause the number just ain't in service. I call number after number, nothing. I start to think my phone is broken, so I call 911...that shits supposed to work from any phone, service or not...same...fucking...message. As if that wasn't freaky enough, doc, the second I hit the 'end call' button, the radio cuts out. Almost right away it comes back on, and you know what the song was? It was nothing. There was no song, on this channel that was apparently twenty-four seven, all 90s, no commercial gem. No, I heard the fuckin' robot voice, and she was just saying random ass numbers." He said, starting to get a flustered look on his face.
"A numbers station?" I asked, enthralled with his tale. As far-fetched as it was, I could tell that he wholeheartedly believed every word was true.
"No! Not really!" Jack said abruptly, as he stood from his chair and began to pace around the room. "1...2...1...2...that's it. That's all the robot bitch would say, over and over, 1...2...1...2. Bizarre, right? I...I thought maybe binary, but no, there was no break in the pattern. Not a single double of either digit, just 1...2 repeat."
I raised my brows and allowed my eyes to track the man, who was increasingly lost in his thoughts. He continued.
"Changing the station didn't help, and the power off button worked as well as the volume, as in they didn't. Useless. Every dial was useless. It was driving me crazy, doc...I knew I had to pull over, I was getting light-headed, and then I saw it. The only building around. I was so relieved to see other cars in the parking lot. Just a few but goddamn it was a good sight to see." He said and chuckled nervously, shaking his head in disbelief.
"If only I'd known, right? So I park and get out of my ride, and do one of those fast walks up to the building. This place was like a truck stop mixed with a convenience store, you know the kind. The type a family would stop at on their way to a vacation to get their kids snacks and drinks, yeah. So I think, 'why not grab me a snack and drink'. I was already starting to shake that paranoia and was calling myself silly, pushing the unexplainable from my mind as I opened the glass door. That little jingle bell attached to it startled me, but in a good way. It was the first non-robotic sound I'd heard in a while. Inside, it looked normal, like you'd expect. Rows of candies and chips, florescent lights shining onto white floor tiles, and most importantly there were other people. I was never happier to hear a fuckin' baby cry, man." Jack said, flopping back into his chair and lighting another smoke.
I remember now, recalling everything with the recorders aide, the way Jack's face sank. There was silence, and I take the moment to top off my scotch. I know what's coming, and the warmth the alcohol fills my body with is competing with the chill in my bones.
"Jack...?" My past self urged.
"Yeah. Yeah, right, this is where everything got fucked." He said softly, almost as if asking permission.
I nodded, and he proceeded to take the reigns, determined to tell his tale.
"When me and Dani were kids, and I'm talking little, like I was maybe eight or nine, and she was probably six... there was an accident. See, you know how when you're little you're carefree and don't think about consequences or shit? So there we were playing outside right, and we come across a knife. Like a kitchen knife. We both knew we weren't supposed to mess with shit like that, especially rusty shit that looked like it had been dropped years ago by like a family moving or something. Anyway, we thought we were badasses. Long story short, I got stabbed in the belly. It was an accident, like I said we were kids. It was pretty bad though, had to get stitches, a tetanus shot, and Dani got a good hard talking to. It left this gnarly scar. It's important, so remember it, yeah?
"Anyway, back to the convenience store. I'm noticing more people, let's see, we got crying baby and mamma, overweight trucker, bald dude in a suit, a really cute lady, and a few others. Oh yeah! The tired looking guy manning the cash register, which doubled as one of those bubblegum stands with stacks and stacks of cigarettes behind him.
"Things are looking normal, right, and I'm starting to forget about the weird shit in the car. I'm sure I just had some weird cell service and the radio was just glitchy. So I grab a bottle of pop from the back cooler and grab a bag of sunflower seeds, yeah...head to the checkout.
"Dude gives me a 'hey, anything else for you?' right, and I say 'yeah lemme get a pack of smokes' and point behind him. He turns around grabs the pack and goes to hand it to me, but freezes just as he starts to extend his arm. From his mouth comes a deep but light 'Wuhhhhhhh' sound." Jack imitated the sound and produced an eerie, unsettling noise that was like a low moan.
"I was about to ask the dude what the fuck was wrong with him, but just as I opened my mouth a loud rip of thunder cracked outside. It sounded deafening, like lightning had struck right next to me. The lights went out and the glass front of the store lit up a brilliant, electric blue. I turned my attention to it, and saw streaks of lightning slashing the sky like some huge electric god was swiping it's claws across the clouds. The blue sky was gone, and in it's place was blackness.
"I turned back to the guy behind the counter. He wasn't doing that sound anymore thank fuck, but he was still frozen in place, pack of cigarettes in his outstretched hand. I reached out for them. I don't know why I did it, but at the time I wasn't thinking clearly I guess. Anyway, I did, and as soon as my fingers touched the box of cigs...its my perspective shifted or something. My vision kinda adjusted, and I could see that he was...he was a standee. A cardboard cutout. My fingers sat on the flat, glossy surface and I felt the urge, the need to press. So I did, and the flat standee with the image of the cashier on it, it fell backwards, softly dropping into the floor.
"I freaked. I gasped, unable to catch my breath. I stumbled backward into what had been a display of snacks, but now was just a rectangular protrusion sticking up from the floor with the images of snacks painted on. I bolted over to the glass window as another impossibly loud crack of thunder clapped in the sky above. Rain was beating the windows, blurring the world outside, but what I could make out was just as insane as what was happening inside.
"All of the cars aside from mine were gone, and my blue sedan sat on the edge of what looked like a cliff. I scanned with my eyes squinting, and saw that it was as if the ground had been ripped from the earth. Beyond the jagged, torn earth was blackness. Nothingness. At that point I was sure that a gigantic hand had reached down from somewhere beyond the cosmos and grabbed the convenience store and dragged it into space.
"I began to scream, turning to see that all of the other patrons were static, as flat as the cashier had been. More standees, right, and I saw that everything in the store was a farce. The rows of snacks, all fake. The displays, fake. Fuck, doc, even the big round security mirrors in the upper corners of the aisles looked like circles painted grey, not a hint of reflection to them.
"Still screaming I looked for the door. Nowhere. The door was fucking gone. I looked back to my car, and the was dissolving. Being washed away by the rain. That's when I heard a voice, echoing my own thoughts. 'what the fuck is happening!?' she said. I whipped around and saw a girl sitting on her ass, lit up by the blue glow from the constant streaks of light in the sky, I could see that she was terrified." Jack took a moment to wipe the tears that were falling down his stubbled cheeks, and lit another cigarette before speaking again.
"She looked about 19 or 20. I didn't recognize her, but she wasn't cardboard and I considered that a win. I stopped screaming and ran to her, offering her my hand. I was saying 'thank god, thank god' so happy to not be alone, you know. She looked relieved too, through her tears and terror she looked happy to see me, too. She took my hand and I helped her to her feet. As soon as she was standing her eyes widened to the point I expected they'd fall out. 'What in the fuck are those...?' she asked me in a panicky whimper. I turned to see the silhouettes standing motionlessly at the window, back-lit by the blue, contrasting their glowing red eyes. They stood shoulder to shoulder, encircling the building. Silently they stood guard as the storm raged around then. With each flash of lightning I caught a glimpse of their nightmarish, metallic surfaces. Skeletons. They were metal skeletons." Jack halfheartedly chuckled at this, clearly it was forced, judging by the way his eyes continued to pour their tears.
"Felt a little like John Conner. Not as brave though, as my instinct was to pull the girl along with me to the back of the store, trying to put as much distance between us and those...fucking I could. They made no attempt to chase though. They just watched as we pressed our backs to the facade that used to be coolers. The girl was breathing hard and fast and suddenly she shrieked out 'look!' pointing a finger to an ugly green door nearby.
"We had no other options, so we booked it. We got to the door only to see that it was lacking a knob. So it seemed we were fucked, yeah? Not quite. I unleashed a fury of kicks on the bastard, forcing it open with a spray of splinters. We hurried through into a storeroom, I guess is what it was. It had what looked to me like a mop bucket and spray bottles, but I couldn't be sure since they were extremely crude and appeared to be made of papier mâché . The girl had rushed to the back of the room. 'Look!' she pointed to a ladder that was attached to the back wall.
"My eyes followed it up to see a hatch. Roof access! Almost instantly, I heard the glass front of the store shatter, the sound of hurricane like winds began to fill the building. 'Hurry!' she shouted over the gale, waving me up. I did go up. I climbed and climbed. First ten feet, then twenty, then thirty. The hatch only inching closer. I refused to look down. I KNEW that I'd been climbing for way too long, much higher than I knew the trip should have been. The hatch continued to move ever so slowly closer, and I was completely aware that the room was getting smaller as I climbed. The walls closed around me until I was surrounded by a cylinder of concrete, no wider than a manhole cover. I could hear the girl following closely, but no words were exchanged.
"Finally, after climbing hundreds of feet into the air, I'd reached the hatch door. I was terrified as I grabbed for the handle. I didn't want to lose my grip and fall into whatever hell was below. I pressed it, and opened it despite the resistance. I was able to climb out of the claustrophobic hole and onto the roof. As soon as I was free, I turned to help girl. You're probably expecting me to say something like 'she wasn't there, right?' Oh no, she was there. A fucking cardboard cutout reaching up for me. As soon as I recognized it, she fell from the ladder and softly descended into an orange glow far below. I stood, feeling the wave of anxiety crushing me, and I watched the hatch slam closed. Before I could react, a brilliant white light from above blinded me. I felt myself fading from existence, my atoms separating. I lost myself.
"The next thing I remember is the white light dissipating, and my eyesight coming back, blurry at first, but it focused as my hearing returned. I can't quite explain what I heard. It was organic but mechanical at the same time. Clicks and whirring. I blinked a few times, and blinking felt so weird, like my eyes were different. I flicked them around, and when they landed on the two absurdly tall, scale covered insectoids, I was thrown into a panic attack. I tried to move, to get away...but I found that I couldn't. I was restrained, apparently on my back, my limbs and head tightly fixed to whatever I was laying on. My rattling had drawn the attention of the creatures, who looked at me with bulbous eyes. The clicking and buzzing sounds had been coming from them, and I found that thought especially horrifying. They began frantically pressing buttons on a panel seemingly connected to whatever was holding me in place...some kind of operating table or medical bed I assume.
"Then, the strangest thing happened, head cleared and the buzzes and clicks...I began to comprehend them. I was almost able to understand. I was getting words like 'awake' and 'hurry'. Then, the most intense pain of my life ripped through my brain. I screamed, and was terrified to find that the scream wasn't my own. I heard one of the creatures clearly through the pain, and it said 'put it back in. If it crashes again we'll deal with it at that point' and the other replied 'there may be errors' as it pulled a lever. The instant that happened, I felt the sensation of dissolving again, my molecules separated and rearranged...the intense light filled my vision once more.
"Next thing I know, I'm hearing a ringing. My vision unblurred and I saw that the sound was coming from my phone, already in my hand. I look around to find that I was free of any restraints, and back in my apartment here in the city. I answered the phone and Dani's voice filled my head, distant and muffled at first, but rapidly becoming sharp and clear. 'Hey bro, just checking in on you, what have you been up to...?' she asked. 'Dani, Dani, I was on my way there, and something happened!' I shout. 'Whoa calm down, what's going on? Why were you coming here? Is everything okay?' she said. She sounded concerned, but a bit standoffish.
"I told her I was coming to the funeral. 'Who died?!' she asked. I was quiet for a moment, remembering what the insect creature had said. 'There could be errors'. I lied and told Dani it was an old friend of mine from school, and that I'd call her about it later.
"That's about it doc. That's what I've been dealing with. I don't know what to think. Am I some kind of experiment? Am I a criminal among a race of bug-aliens and this world my prison? Is this whole world, no, universe some kind of simulation just for me? Doc, I don't think I'm human, hell I'm not convinced the human race ever even existed. If I die, is it possible that all of this gets blinked out of existence? Is that possible, doc?!" Jack said through a torrent of tears.
"Jack, isn't it much more likely that this was a psychotic break? Tell me, do you have a history of drug abuse?" I ask, but just as I do, a voice from the recorder interrupts.
"Doctor, your next appointment is here." Marnie says.
"We'll pick this up next week, Jack." My past self says, and I hear myself stand from chair. I wince, dreading the last thing Jack ever said to me.
I clearly remember him standing, and raising his shirt, revealing a smooth, thin, but unscarred stomach. "Errors. There may be errors." Followed by the sound of my office door opening and closing.
A long moment of silence followed, before I heard myself ask Marnie to please cancel my remaining appointments for the day.
The recorder clicks and brings me back to the present. The storm continues outside. I find myself contemplating Jack's story for the millionth time. He never came back for his next appointment. Its entirely possible that he had simply lied about the stab wound, but the look on his face, I don't know. Is there a chance that he really did experience these outlandish things? If so, what does that imply?
Maybe that's why I decided to share this with the world tonight. I no longer wish to bear this alone. I think chronicling this, while it's definitely a breach of my confidentiality agreement, is the healthiest thing for me. I wish I could purge his story from my mind, but I can't help but be uncomfortable when it storms.

Groestlcoin C-Lightning Updated to v0.8.2
C-lightning: A specification compliant Lightning Network implementation in C.
C-lightning is a lightweight, highly customisable and standard compliant implementation of the Lightning Network protocol.

• We now support gifting mgro to the peer when opening a channel, via push_msat, providing a brand new way to lose money!
• Preliminary support for plugins hooks which can replace the default groestlcoin-cli with other blockchain querying methods (API may change in future releases though!).
• listforwards now records the outgoing short_channel_id, even if it wasn't possible to start forwarding.
• Plugins can set additional feature bits, for more experimentation.
• More than one plugin can register for the htlc_accepted hook: others will become multi-user in future releases.
• Prevent a case where grossly unbalanced channels could become unusable.
• New config option --large-channels (also known as 'wumbo') which enables opening channels of any size. (Note that your peer must also support large channels.)
• This release includes a keysend plugin, which will enable receiving 'keysend' payments, as first introduced by Lightning Labs. Note that the included keysend plugin is receive only for this release. Nodes which do not want the hassle of spontaneous unrequested payments should add 'disable-plugin=keysend' to their config!
• We'll now announce multiple connection endpoints for a single 'type', e.g. multiple IPv4 addresses.
• Big performance improvement in the pay command (~1s speedup on average).
• c-lightning nodes can now participate in creating larger channels (with the --large-channel config option).
• We now wait until the first payment through a channel before updating the feerate; this should help with some spurious closures at channel open or re-connect that were occurring against older versions of other implementations.
• A new command getsharedsecret for getting the BOLT-compliant shared secret finding for a node and a point.
• Facilities for building rendezvous compatible onions has been added to the onion devtool.
• Plugin options will now respect the type they were given in the manifest.
• Fixes with plugin cleanups and hangs.
• Python2 has been removed as a dependence.

BJP Government Performance Analysis: Administration & Governance

This is my 2nd article in the series of articles which analyse the work of Modi government starting from 2014 till present date. This one is about administration and governance. Unlike the first one on defence, it is not that binary and there are quite a few gray areas and is subject to opinions as much it is to facts. For example, I like how NGOs have been brought under tougher checks and a lot of such organisations have been forced to shut shop. But quite a few people view it as unfair.

Reddit Link
Additionally, there is an overlap between governance issues and various others like economy, foreign policy etc. In this article, focus will will be on the work done or changes in way of working of central government ministries and departments. Some of these will be mentioned in next article which will be about economy issues.
1. Steps for leaner, responsive and more efficient government.
This is the most obvious, yet hardest things to do for any regime. All the decisions made by the politically elected government are implemented by officials who usually see multiple such governments come and go through their service. It is next to impossible to fire or even penalise them for even gross incompetence. Any reform in their way of working is extremely hard and takes years of sustained effort. Political and ideological differences even among ministers also play their part. Then there are politicians who have a mutually beneficial nexus with such officials even when they are out of power. Some of the first steps taken by Modi regime was to break this nexus and it seems to have succeeded partially. But there is still a long way to go.
  1. Officials working for central government have been forced to work much harder, so much so that many now view these prestigious jobs as punishment postings. Many non-performing officers have been disciplined and even sacked, a first. 1* 2* 29* 68* 112* 118* 132*
  2. Even serving ministers have been forced to adopt austerity measures. Some examples are no new vehicles, reduced travel expenses 1113 71* 125*
  3. Influence of foreign interests, corporates and their lobbyists has been severely curtailed. Many “powerful” people who had a lot of influence in various ministries and govt departments now don’t have insider knowledge or influence over decision making. 26* 63* 75*
  4. Many politicians squatting on government properties have been forced to vacate them. List of more than 1500 such squatters includes many former ministers, MLAs, MPs and many so called artists, inetellectuals who have been staying in govt allotted properties long after their time was over. Even BJP run state governments have evacuated have evacuated former CMs and MLAs. 61* 65* 104* 108* 109* 113*
  5. Business of paid for postings and transfers in many central govt departments has been severely curtailed. 7* 105*
  6. Many useless posts have been abolished and major departments downsized and streamlined. Often posts like this were used to accommodate officials in high paying post-retirement postings.4* 117*
  7. There is much greater communication between government and people. Many ministers and even PM office interact with common citizens on Twitter among other platforms. 124* 119*
  8. Options opened for direct entry of domain experts in to government departments. 133* 134* 135*
  9. Various measures taken to improve business climate like curtailment of harassment by various inspectors, passing of bankruptcy law, steps to improve ease of doing business among many others. It resulted in India making a record jump in ease of doing business index in 2017 and broke in to top 100 for first time. 3* 10* 12* 23* 46* 59* 66* 72* 154* 155* 156* 158* 159* 160*
  10. A very large number of old, archaic laws removed. Latest one under consideration (July 2018) in Supreme Court is article 377, removal of which will lead to decriminalisation of homo-sexuality. 1159 such redundant laws removed in just 2 years. 42* 163* 164* 165*
  1. Attempts to clean up bureaucracy and red tape need more will. In 4 years, there have not been many deep reforms in functioning of most govt departments, as far as corruption and delays are concerned. Then there have been some seemingly counter-productive measures like the one which makes it harder to investigate a govt servant.
  2. For most part, BJP ruled states have not shown enough initiative and willingness for reforms as was expected of them.
SCORE: 6.5/10
2.Corruption and black money.
Before anyone starts “where are my 15 lakh which Modi promised”, kindly watch this video.
Recovering black money was one of the major poll promises of BJP and they have made fairly good progress on some fronts while it lacks on others.. As it happened, cleanups also unearthed huge scams in bank loans in which UPA regime gave away loans to numerous people who never meant to pay those back. This has proven to be one of the biggest scams in history and many big industrialists and UPA politicians including former Finance Minister Chidambaram have been implicated. Many of them have ran away from India to escape persecution. Apart from that, even after their best efforts, all the opposition parties and their followers have been unable to find a single corruption charge against Modi regime till date.
Demonetisation, however controversial it may be, has enabled recovery of untaxed income worth thousands of crores which would have never happened except for drastic measure like this. Implementation of GST was not perfect, but it has led to streamlined taxation process with reduced leakage, This link contains list of some income tax raids done immediately after demonetisation.
  1. Huge scam in banking sector in which loans worth thousands of crores were given away without proper checks under influence of UPA ministers unearthed. Number of industrialists, bank officials and politicians are implicated. Many of these industrialists are being forced to give back that money. Legal actions being taken against others, some of which have fled India and some politicians and their associates. Banks starting to show gains after sustained recovery efforts. 120* 131* 136* 137* 138* 139* 140* 141* 158*
  2. Many politicians jailed or under investigation for various corruption issues including former CMs and central ministers. 130* 142* 143* 144* 149* 150*
  3. Many dubious NGOs, many of which have shady backgrounds have been forced to shut shop or forced to reduce their operations. Among the benign ones, many of such organisations were front for money laundering and payment of lackeys. Others were foreign sponsored fronts for mass scale conversions of Indics, anti-India propaganda and terrorism. 5* 9* 21* 91* 115* 126* 127* 145*
  4. A large quantity of black money from foreign bank accounts successfully recovered. Treaties signed with Switzerland (among other countries) under which Swiss will share details of Indians owning bank accounts in Swiss banks. 103* 122* 128* 129* 146* 148*
  5. Large increase in number of people paying income tax after rules like Aadhar verification, demonetisation, GST. Huge amounts of money recovered in income tax raids. Properties of gangsters targeted. Lakhs of shell companies closed down. 101* 121* 123* 128* 129* 147* 151* 152* 153* 161*
  6. Stronger laws passed against corruption and tax evasion. Top level corruption reduces significantly. 33* 75* 93* 101* 102*
  1. Modi regime perhaps underestimated how difficult the recovery of black money from foreign accounts will be. Although a huge sum of money has been recovered, the whole process will take a lot longer and most likely will fall short of hype during election campaign.
  2. A number of bank loan defaulters managed to evade authorities and escape to foreign countries. If they had been arrested earlier, then loan recovery would have been a lot more easier and faster.
  3. Implementation of GST was not up to par. Numerous issues still exist which will take atleast a few months to be sorted out.
  4. Although I personally support demonetisation, it was not as well planned as it should have been. Very large number of people faced inconveniences for quite long time due to shortage of currency. Strangely, number of currency notes in circulation has reached back previous levels.
  5. Even if corruption at top levels has been reduced, grassroot corruption still seems to be as bad as it was earlier. Problem of citizens dealing directly with govt departments have not eased much.
SCORE: 6.5/10
The actual score would have been a 6. Extra half point is due to clean image of almost every minister and no scams yet. Opposition parties have tried their best to make up scams like the one for Rafale planes, but their attempts have been laughably stupid.
3. Programs for citizens.
Energy savings with new policies Reforms in electricity
This regime seems to have better reach out programs for general public which are meant to make their lives and interaction with government machinery easier and fruitful. In addition to big steps like Jan Dhan bank accounts, Mudra Yojna, free LPG for poor, there have been number of measures implemented to make government departments more responsive and approachable. Some of these points have overlap with economy and infrastructure issues, but they are mentioned here because they affect lives of citizens directly. and profoundly.. Some of these will be explained in detail in later posts.
  1. Red tape cut across various government departments. Steps like digital locker, self-attestation of documents and a few others meant to reduce paperwork, unnecessary delays and corruption implemented. 47* 62* 66* 67* 72* 107*
  2. Jan Dhan Yojna brings banking to the poorest and enables direct transfer of funds for subsidies and other welfare programs. This is one of the best measures in quite a long time meant for direct benefit of the poor. Reduces delays and corruption. 167* 168* 169* 170* 171* 172* 173* 175*
  3. Passport issue and re-issue process made much easier and faster. 110* 166*
  4. More platforms for feedback about government departments and policies created. Emphasis on transparency in governance and grievance redressal mechanisms. 79* 124* 116* 119*
  5. Steps taken to solve some employee issues related to Provident Fund, pensions and others. Lot more reforms still needed. 6* 18*
  6. Swachh Bharat Mission despite problems is showing some results. 85% of population now has access to toilets, compared to around 40% at start of program. According to WHO, 3 lakhs deaths caused by diarrhea were averted between 2014 and 2019. A lot of public places like railway stations are much cleaner. 175 * 176* 177* 178* 179*
  7. Ujwala Yojana, a scheme meant to eradicate use of polluting fuels like wood, coal, dung for cooking proves to be a good success. 5 crore new connections allotted ahead of target. 180* 181* 182* 183*
  8. While many countries struggle with it, India implements strong net neutrality rules. 184* 185*
  9. Multiple steps taken to improve conditions for farmers. Extra impetus on reducing malnutrition and increasing availability of nutritional food to citizens through various schemes. 186, 187, 188, 189 205* 206*
  10. Excellent work so far by power ministry bringing even the remotest places in India on electricity grid. A number of villages which had remained outside the grid now have electricity. Additionally, electricity production and distribution is much better. India has a power surplus and is 3rd largest electricity producer in world. Most of issues still remaining are more often than not due to inefficient and corrupt state electricity corporations. Cheap LED bulbs help in reducing power consumption. 190, 191 192* 193* 194* 195* 196* 197* 198* 199* 200* 201* 202*
  11. Much needed push for solar power with huge new solar power plants coming up. 203* 204*
  12. Pace of road construction across the country has picked up substantially and it has been the highest till now. Many remote regions have new connectivity and existing highways in most regions have been upgraded, 207* to 232* 26 \
  1. Inspite of all the schemes and subsidies, Indian agricultural sector suffers from various issues which will need a lot more work and better implementations. There has been no obvious solution of issues arising due to small size of land holdings, mimimum support prices and bureaucratic red tape.
  2. Swach Bharat mission has been partially successful at best.
  3. Implementation of digital measures meant to reduce red tape have had limited effect till now. Many people and govt departments remain unaware and disinterested in these changes.
SCORE: 7/10
If it was just the intention of projects mentioned here, this would be a full 10. But meaningful implementation of many of these projects is hampered by numerous factors like inefficient, corrupt bureaucracy, infinitely stupid and large population as well as mediocre planning. Some of these projects are longterm and the effects will be visible only after a certain amount of time.
If compared with UPA regime, this one is miles ahead in almost everything. But this is not a good enough standard to improve upon. There have been some good efforts from top, but on ground implementation has been good in only a few. Some of the long standing issues like reforms in bureaucracy, agriculture and a few other fields which will take more than just good intent and announcement of schemes.

Hardwired series homepage
Previous Chapter
It was raining lightly by the time Ajax arrived at the address Phorcys had given him a month back, when he had first landed. The semicircle-shaped set of townhouses were clearly meant to be upscale, with far nicer trim and paint than some of the buildings he’d seen on his drive into the city. Circumstances, however, had worn the building with decades of use despite being only a few years old, and the roof sagged visibly in some places where support beams had cracked and splintered from premature aging.
He parked the magnetocycle, letting the capacitor discharge with a lurch before engaging the brake and arming the failsafe quench; it was a meaningless gesture, one borne out of more habit than anything else, but Ajax didn’t like changing a behavioral driver over harmless minutia. The quench was little more than a gyroscope, a vent valve, and a circuitboard the size of Ajax’s metal thumb, and had been added aftermarket following an incident on New Terra with a child being run down after the rider hadn’t parked it properly.
When the fuzzy memory trickled back into his neural web, the headlines blurry with mild degradation over the decades, Ajax was surprised to see the date in the corner of the file was nearly as old as Phorcys was. The thought redirected his wandering mind, as he slowly stepped up the creaking metal stairs towards the door address in the open message he had archived.
It’s a shame there’s no quench option for Phorcys.
His GOM driver was still merrily shoving reminders of Phorcys’ past transgressions forward, and the filesize of queued memories was large enough to be annoying in and of itself. His analysis program hovered the p=1.5e-10 value for the probability that Phorcys had been talking with someone else, and that source was how he had known about the ambush so quickly. At the time, Ajax was devoting too many cycles to perimeter defense and pre-emptive firewalls to analyze his “friend’s” sudden font of wisdom about the situation, but upon reflection the probability of it being random happenstance plummeted from p=0.3 to p=0.001, and had just dropped from there. He had rerun the analysis on the driver over, and the values continued to be consistent with the realization from earlier.
Well, no time like the present to pay him a house call, and get some-
He stopped, as his security driver screamed into full operation. The distant sound of a pulsehammer at a construction site became muffled from the draw of cycles away from audio clarity, as his visual lenses pivoted, focusing: Phorcys’ door was ajar, the wood frame splintered and spiderwebbed at the locks. It was only open by an inch or so, but the splintering was precisely over the door lock and deadbolt, as well as over what must have been the cogent’s third lock he installed himself. The other AI was always predicting numerous probabilities of outcomes involving those he had slighted coming to settle the affair in person, and as a result Ajax had never known him to dwell in one place for more than a week without installing his own lock on it.
Including when I let him lay low when I rented that dropship. I still can’t figure how he had managed to get a drill bit to take on the thermal plating, but I came back to a lock on my own shuttlecraft door all the same.
Ajax bent, as if to tighten a nut on his foot support, and slowly eased his hand towards the concealed barrel of the rail pistol. He paused, as a dusty and oft-unused social driver facet nudged into the forefront, showing a manifest of local rules and regulations passed in the news headlines, following the Lilu AI’s rebellion. Phorcys’ city of choice, Mulviar, had numerous articles highlighting the installation of additional security cameras, and concerns by watchdog groups regarding the privacy of the cogent residences of the neighborhoods they were installed in.
Slowly tilting his apical sensor cluster, the lenses picked out the distinct angular shape of Lilu camera clusters around both lightposts in the parking lot, and Ajax was in plain view of both of them.
[Ramification Index for Armed Cogent in this Region is: Three stars. Recommended Action: Do not carry visible weaponry at this time. Further Clarification Needed? Y/N]
So much for going in guns blazing. Well, here’s hoping that anyone inside was planning to beat the binary out of Phorcys, rather than eliminate him entirely.
He executed a snippet of code, feeling the completion notification as two inch-long electrode prongs extended from his pointer and middle finger.
Folks keep underestimating how hard it is to kill an assault cogent lately.
The wristlight on that hand dimmed, as the capacitor in his palm clicked over and quickly built up a charge. The notification of readiness wasn’t a notification as such, but rather just an observation that the power drain in that arm abruptly steadied.
Then he continued forward, slowly, and staying out of a direct line between the bright lights of the parking lot and the open door. As he drew adjacent, Ajax pushed the leg drivers into a lunge, ignoring the recommended operational warning as he slammed the door backwards. He was already in a roll to minimize his target, unfolding in less than a decacycle as he held his other wrist up to block incoming fire.
But no fire came. The sound of rain could be heard both in front of and behind him now, as the breeze blew the a fabric curtain through the shattered acrylic window. The townhouse living room had been ransacked, drawers pulled open and broken, and a charging station crushed under the weight of a chair. He stood motionless, allocating cycles to audio sensitivity and analysis, but getting no results back other than the faint sounds of a television next door, the rain outside, and traffic on the street below.
Ajax did a quick analysis of the living room, and then strode to the centermost point he could figure, and began a broadband EM sweep. The returning signal was a disappointment as well; no signatures inside other than his own, the flicker from the ruined charging station at his feet, and a faint and muffled signal from a cogent that was at least one apartment distant. Said cogent was an older model from the looks of it, as he was bleeding EM spectra in a manner most modern cogents rarely did.
A surge of a self-integrity algorithm Ajax didn’t recognize pushed the EM package to do a more detailed diagnostic of his own frame, and his GOM driver gave a slight surge of pride as it returned a minimal profile, on par any modern cogent frames.
Still not as good as spectral shielding, but I’d rather not deal with walking around in a personalized faraday containment cell all day.
His analysis had returned no signal for the rest of the dwelling, and he trusted his sensor suite enough that nothing short of military-grade equipment and programs could have entirely eluded his sensor sweeps. However, recent events had increased his probability analysis of such a situation beyond non-zero values, so he swept the rest of the townhouse. As expected, it was empty, and all of the rooms the signature spartan emptiness he had expected from a former military cogent.
Empty that is, save for one.
Hmm, that maple looks like it will need a trimming soon.
The room that normally would have been a guest bedroom had a single metal table on it, with all three of Phorcys’ bonsai arranged on it. The small clippers and an empty plastic cup sat nearby, and the traces of liquid in the bottom of the clear acrylic caught the attention of Ajax’s lenses.
Let’s see, angle of 3 degrees, 4 centimeter diameter, assume filled at or close to brim. Retention analysis puts that at, let’s see-
He waited for the additional cycles to process the archived formula; this was a rare enough occasion that it wasn’t worth bringing the file out of the more efficient storage, even with the added calculation time.
[Volume result: Retention expected of 900 microliters]
He grabbed the cup, tipping it slightly and analyzing the bead of water within.
What’s the time since filling, given current volume of 500 microliters and current weather conditions?
[ Elapsed time estimated at: Two hours, thirty minutes. Range of error: Plus or minus thirty minutes.]
Relatively recently, then. Phorcys, it appears your luck still holds.
He heard a thump from outside, and stepped towards the door, electrode-armed finger raised and charged. Then there was the whine of poorly-oiled servos, and Ajax’s EM sensors pinged a quick result to him, causing him to lower his arm and step outside.
Just sad to see a cogent in a condition like that.
The older cogent he had detected earlier had stepped outside, and with each step Ajax could hear the revving whine of an overclocked processor and a cooling fan clearly trying to keep up and failing. Some cogents saw the allure in running high-cost simulations, ones that could occupy as little or as much of the neural web as desired, but in most of the cases Ajax saw, those who did so could all too easily overdraw and burn out their processor decades ahead of normal maintenance cycles.
He had tried simming a few times, especially during the war, but had always kept it to a small proportion of his overall nodecount. For whatever reason, it had never hooked, never drawing him past the point of caring if he returned.
Still, this cogent apparently had some leftover cycles devoted to situational awareness outside of basic power-sustaining autopilot, and they slowly shuffled around to face Ajax.
The low buzz of static that erupted sounded like a growl, no words audible, and for a moment Ajax’s audio processors tried and failed to comprehend any words emitted in the electric mumble.
Then a secondary recognition sequence kicked in, drawing out a binary code and translating it in one smooth motion.
[“Hey, you are not designated ‘Phorcys.’ Identify. Don’t make me involve security forces.”]
Can’t even afford to devote the cycles to speech or messaging. They’re in worse condition than I thought.
He pointed at Phorcys’ empty door, and said slowly “I AM A FRIEND OF PHORCYS. HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?
After a few cycles, his social driver nudged him to grit himself and repeat it in a similar snarl of raw binary.
The cogent looked between Ajax’s frame, and the doorway, and took a half-step back. He couldn’t tell if the response delay was from the simming, or coming up with a reply. The vocalizer scratched aloud, but this time in rough and unrefined speech.
Ajax felt his GOM driver push a node of pure annoyance forward.
Oh, we’re doing this now, are we?
He stood, silently preparing his hydraulics as he began to reply. “I’M JUST-
In one smooth motion, he lifted the other cogent, and jabbing the electrodes under the frame where he judged the graphical unit to be. He let out a low-level charge; not enough to scramble their entire web, but certainly enough to abort the sim in a joltingly unpleasant way, and indicate that more charge could easily be applied.
There was a cough of surprised and frightened static from the smaller cogent; their smaller frame was more compact, and the metal leg supports waved a few inches off of the ground as Ajax’s heavier build pinned them against the cracked plastic siding. The quick reply that was blurted out was filled with text-gapping, as the lenses of the other cogent swiveled and focused on Ajax.
Ajax slowly let his hydraulics release and lower the terrified cogent to the ground. As the cogent scurried back into their home and slammed the door, he obliged his social driver and let out a succinct “THANKS,” before turning to vault over the railing to the concrete below. A brief lookup flashed the name of ‘The Pint and TimBL’ and a few reviews on his screen. The pictures were poor, but from them he could see a tiny bar, a few booths, but mostly a half-dozen tables set for craps and blackjack.
Figures. I could have saved myself the trouble, and just found whatever the closest way to lose money the fastest was. Never fails.
He strode over to the cycle, charging the engines as he unlatched the autoquench. Gunning the throttle, he appreciated the throaty hum of power, before accelerating into the sheets of rain and towards the bar on his map. The trip was fast, and the parking was plentiful. He pulled in behind a truck bearing the insignia for a local parts and repairs shop, before locking his bike and stepping inside.
A few metal heads lifted to glance at him, before returning to their games. One or two nursed drinks, hydraulics and lubrication oils in squat, open glasses, with narrow filling pipes snaked into them from arms and chests. It wasn’t necessarily the cleanest way to replace lost fluids, but some cogents liked emulating human eccentricities, and in any case the fluid tended to be cheaper by the barrel rather than in sterile and filtered disposable bottles.
The bartender looked him over, and Ajax could feel the slight tingle against his EM sensors as an EM probe quickly checked him over. He paused for a moment, as his own analysis indicated the probe would have detected the weapons-grade capacitors in his wrist and leg.
The bartender just inclined her sensor cluster, and Ajax did the same, his security algorithm suddenly spiking into a hum of cautious calm.
Well, if she didn’t eject me for having a capacitor that could blow a cogent in half, I’m probably not the only one packing.
He strode over, looking over the huddled cogents on metal stools as they held hands of worn cardstock or rounded-edge dice. There were two stuffed seats, indications that humans or at the very least cyborgs occasionally frequented, but for now the only living organisms in the bar were the rats under the floorboards and the moths flapping frantically around the fluorescent lights.
He finally caught sight of the back of a familiar sensor cluster, and stepped over to stand behind Phorcys’ shoulder. He noted his rear sensor lens focused and pivoted to sweep across Ajax’s frame, and without looking up, he addressed Ajax.
I’M SURPRISED YOU WANTED TO PAY ME A VISIT. IT SOUNDED LIKE YOU WERE A BIT-” He reached forward, placing a thin stack of chips on the worn felt over the words ‘Ace-Deuce’, before leaning back “-PREOCCUPIED, LAST WE SPOKE.
Ajax leaned forward, his analysis of the dice springing forward unbidden, and a few unfavorable numbers flashed forward.
PHORCYS, THOSE DICE ARE SHIT.” Ajax ignored the glare he got from the dealer at the table. “WITH ROUNDED EDGES ON THE SIXES AND FIVES, YOU’RE PICKING THE LOWEST-
Phorcys’ hand shot upwards, a single finger raised as he uttered a hiss of static to shush Ajax. At the same time, a messenger flag cropped up in Ajax’s web, also addressed from Phorcys.
Open message.
{Do you fucking mind? I owe the dealer money. I lose, he gets paid, I don’t wake up from hibernation with my drive separated from my frame and left to rot in some dumpster.}
Ajax quelled the surge of his GOM driver’s reply, and refined his own message back as he outwardly shrugged his shoulders.
[Your funeral, then. Besides, even a damn half-flesh would be able to tell you were making even more of a losing bet than probabilities would offer.]
{Wow, in a room full of minds capable of computing teraflops even when half of them are simming their processors into slag, you are the only one capable of picking out that I am purposefully losing. What is it that your fleshy friend always calls you? Blender?}
[Do you mean Susan? She calls me a ‘toaster oven’ when she’s annoyed.]
{Yes, that. You’re being a ‘toaster oven,’ ‘Jax. Go hibernate in a corner for a minute while I lose the rest of my money and appease the dealer’s boss over here.}
It took a long decacyle for Ajax to clamp down on the GOM driver’s attempt to have him punch Phorcys in the back of his smug sensor node, but he stepped away from the table. Behind him, he could hear the clatter of dice, the call “BIG RED, SIX IN A CORNER” in a gruff buzz from the dealer, followed by a string of swearwords both spoken and binary from Phorcys as he stood and strode off in a presumable huff towards Ajax.
{So what’s this all about? Normally you don’t ever buck Susan’s leash for you.}
Ajax fought to keep the irritation from tinting his reply.
[I don’t have a ‘leash,’ Phorcys. And besides, your apartment was broken into; I was going to call on you there.]
{Nice one, eh?}
There was a smug grinning mechanical face attached as an image file to the reply, and Ajax couldn’t help but turn to face Phorcys as he replied.
[You trashed your own apartment?]
{Yeah. I got word that the White Fangs might be looking to speak with me about a shipment of medical supplies I had been intending to connect them with. Security forces got curious, my driver had to dump his cargo. Same sad story, different planet, different gang of fleshy thugs.}
[ I can’t imagine them being angry since you obviously returned the money for an uncompleted job.]
This time Phorcys’ frame shrugged, and Ajax sent another message over.
[They leveled Susan’s house.]
{Fuck, who? The ones who shot at you in the market earlier?}
Ajax could tell the reply was too quick, and either Phorcys had decided to completely disable most of his emotional drivers, or he was already aware of the possibility.
Either way, the analysis results weren’t adding up in his favor.
[Phorcys, drop the bullshit.]
{Oh, another of your human euphemisms? If you keep hanging around with humans, Ajax, and you’ll want to start sticking fleshy bits into your own frame and-}
Ajax resisted the urge to send his node-armed fingers through Phorcys’ neck joint as he tuned out the rest of Phorcys’ rambling reply. Instead, he spent the effort to render the combat projection of doing exactly that, including highlighting the damage to Phorcys’ frame, compressed the resulting file, and sent it to Phorcys with a reply.
[Cut. The. Bullshit.]
Phorcys closed the communication channel on his reply, and the next communication was flat.
{What do you want, Ajax.}
[Who were you talking with, when you messaged me following the market shootout?]
{‘Jax, I have no idea what you’re-}
He injected as much threat into a slight shift in his stance as he could.
The reply image was of a cartoon cogent waving their hands defensively.
{Look, Ajax, I can tell you all about it, but it will take a while. Also, said person is fairly secretive, so enabling the security barriers to even start to discuss it will take a while too.}
Ajax glanced around the room.
[And? We’re not exactly on someone’s clock here, Phorcys.]
{Actually, we are. See the cogent in the corner, the one built like a server room and with most of their lenses pointing at me?}
Ajax focused a side lense in that direction, and could indeed see a freight-transport frame, with a trio of glowing green lenses that were all angled towards the two of them.
[You owe them some money too?]
{Their boss, actually.}
Ajax could feel the GOM driver push another node of frustration.
[Of course. So what’s to stop them from coming over and making a manual withdrawal from whatever gold and copper are in your circuits?]
{Well, I’ve got a business opportunity, and quite a lucrative one at that.}
[You’re going to rob someone.]
The analysis had been effortless, even without the assistance of fuzzy memory backups, and Phorcys’ tone in reply was hurt.
{Now who ever said anything about robbery? All we’re going to do is go in, copy some technical files for their upcoming chip manufacturing project, and transfer it to my buyer. In, out, and-}
[Wait, what’s all this ’we’ you keep referring to?]
Ajax could almost taste the smirk in Phorcys’ reply, with an image file of a large high-rise skyscraper.
{Well, I thought you might be interested in breaking into the labs that manufactured that rogue Lilu AI.}
[Go on...]
Chapter Fourteen: Blind Carbon Copy
submitted by darkPrince010 to HFY [link] [comments]

Ive been smashing through all of the classic HFY and after finishing all the "classics" and moving well on my way through the "must read" list. Felt I should return something back. First time. Be gentle, point out mistakes/hints/pointers. I havent written anything creative since fucking back in highschool which is over 7 years ago. Super rusty, but just adore this subreddit too much not to try.
What have we done? The cradle that nurtured us, that protected us, that raised us, an empty radioactive shell. A semi devoured husk of environmental problems. As harsh as space is, the future here, amongst the stars offers more hope, more of an actual future than the nuclear wasteland below. Ragnarok. Judgement day. The apocalypse. It had all arrived. The horseman of war rides out amongst the radioactive rubble. Surtr has engulfed the world in fire. Vishnu the destroyer upon his white steed flashes as the nukes tear through the atmosphere. Through the cities. Through the people within.
A tear rolled down Samantha’s cheek, her reddened eyes reflecting in the viewport as the once blue marble continued to flash periodically as nuclear armageddon ratcheted up a notch. As an eminent biologist, she along with another 80 000 selected individuals were split evenly among 4 separate arks. The chosen few. The only few to leave for a new hopeful world among the stars. Petty differences, a little instability, a bit of bad luck.
There was no single factor at fault here. Climate change pressured how resources were distributed, conflict further choking off access. Advances in medicine especially in telomere support increased life expectancy in developed nations by two decades straining resources further elsewhere. Military might became an increasingly important factor in securing not just luxuries but the bare necessities like enough irrigation water to sustain the increasingly burdensome population. It was just a pile of tinder waiting for a spark. You cant blame the spark when you build a house of tinder, then douse it in gasoline. Yes the spark set it off, but it was only a matter of time. Those that blame the Indian-Chinese conflict for being the reason miss tension everywhere that allowed it to escalate wildly and out of control.
There were mixed feelings throughout the ship. Comprised entirely of capable, determined, selected individuals. They would race out towards the nearby stars, establish colonies, link back up with the other arks and hopefully contact earth. If there is an earth left to contact. Trepidation ran thick. There was hope yes, hope for a brighter future, but for every human that was leaving the planet, 200 000 would perish to the nuclear flames below. May god have mercy on their souls. The ark movement was deemed a self defeating movement, one predicated on humanity eating itself alive based on its timetable for completion. But it gained headway, sponsors, and approached completion just in time it seemed. Humanity’s flame has not burned out yet. This travesty, it will be learned from. It had to be learned from. All Samantha could do was brush her fingers lightly on the reinforced plexiglass screen and whisper
Ark 3, identical to the other arks ignited its primary ion engines as it pushed out from Earth’s gravity world as earth fades away to a pale speck amongst the inky blackness of the sky. Pushing away from the viewport, Samantha steeled herself for the cryosleep which was to occur soon. 92% success rate of reawakening is still a 8% failure rate. The never ending sleep, at least it was a peaceful way to go. The struggle wasn’t over yet, but you cant fight physics. You cant fight the scale of the universe. A light year was just too far away. The gulf of distance too vast for rudimentary travel to cross easily. She takes one last look at the picture of her family. A man with thick brown hair, a red headed woman, an infant girl. Despite the sunglasses, the smile couldn’t be hidden by the creases around the eyes. A widow. A bereaved mother. Her young daughter had a genetic defect and did not meet the selection criteria for travel. There were no medical supplies for her here or on earth anyways. It hurt to leave Sarah behind.. Her husband was in London when the first nukes fell in the opening salvo, the “3 weeks of death”, before an uneasy truce was established. A shame the ceasefire lasted a mere 4 days before nuclear warheads were traded once more.
Although it hurt, it hurt so much she could barely breathe at times. She wasn’t alone. No one was alone in their loss on the ark. Everyone had their tale of leaving loved ones and family behind. Over 24. Under 35. Peak physical condition. Educated in needed fields. Specific mental aptitude. No genetic diseases. It was strict and left no margin for small mercies like keeping families together. Positions couldn’t be bought or bribed for. It was the only way to not have the ark system collapse in on itself. Ark 3 ramps power to primary ion engines up to 23%, it will maintain this rate for months before sling shotting around Jupiter and out of the solar system on a one way trip, only upon leaving the gravity well in full will the engines ramp up to 70%, its cruising strength. All arks would use the same manoeuvre. Proxima Centauri, 4.2 light years. Epsillon Eridani, 10.5 light years. EZ Aquaril 11.3 light years. 61 Cygni, 11.4 light years. 4 star systems. 4 arks. The desperate last ditch grab at survival by humanity raced off into the void. The cries from earth silenced only by the deathly cold embrace of cryosleep. 0.05c at max speed. 54 million km/h. Not fast enough as Ark 3 takes its 260 year journey to EZ Aquaril. There will be a time to lament, but that will be a gift for future generations. The current one can only work and atone. The ghosts of humanity past will cry out and demand it.
Stretching, the various joints and muscles stretch and pop and crackle as Samantha relieves the cramped body. She was getting old. 67 years young to be precise. All the first generation Rillers were getting old. Cryosleep had a whole host of long term problems. Shaping the single planet, Ril, in the EZ Aquaril system had been hard. But its not like they had a choice. Arc 3 had enough fuel for the single journey, only the Centauri ship, Ark 1 could move on for a new star and that was pushing the margins very close. Acceleration, deceleration. Fuel consumption was through the roof just for stopping and bringing a ship back from 0.05c. A pity it never even made it out of the Sol system, the auto pilot must have had an error as it ploughed the Ark straight into Jupiter, all arks were full cryo by that stage, and looking back, going 11.3 light years for a black box seems stupid just to sate the curiosity. At least it was known what happened to Ark based on its tight band transmissions and error alerts it sent the other Arks as it launched itself into Jupiter. Nobody knows what happened to Ark 4 as it accelerated away into the unknown and Ark 2 had a miserable fate of arriving to a dead planet, not even the option of terraforming could be applied, with only mass suicide as an option as their meagre resources dwindled. All the crew could do was broad cast its lack of success and greet the void.
While getting up to brew herself a cup of coffee Mark suddenly interjects.
“Don’t worry hun, Ive got it, the usual pick me up right?”
“Yes dear” sighed Samantha, wearily rubbing her eyes. “Two sugars please instead of the one”
The black hair on Mark was greying at the edges, as a first gen colonist, he was getting old as well but well built and fit for his age. This was typical for most Rillers. Complex healthcare was possible, but prevention was important with limited resources.
“The algae we released just aren’t translated into biofuel at the right conversion rate. Something is eating into the efficiency by 4% and I just cant for the life of me figure it out”
“That sounds like an engineers problem, as long the yield of algal amount is high, you should be good”
“That’s why I brought it up with you, you are the engineer after all.”
“Electrical engineer mind you” chuckling, Mark picked up the data pad and began reviewing through the numbers anyways sipping on his own coffee. The binary star pair shone with a pale blue light through the lightly tinted glass. Their tidally locked planet was in a perpetual state of day. Many neighbours had their housing with fully tinted glass, resting at their defacto night time, but work had to be done for some. And many windows were un tinted to a varying degree.
“These biofuel sources are important, until we can get the 3rd fusion reactor online, most of our automatic mining equipment still uses combustion engines. It’s important.” Samantha stammers out the last bit. Easy to maintain, accessible fuel, it seemed the combustion engine hadn’t fully died. The main issue with electric engines was battery availability, demand was incredibly high in the fledging colony and the infrastructure wasnt yet there to support the supply needed.
“I know hun, I know” Sensing a nervous break down, Mark begins to move closer.
“I need to get this ready, I have to solve this problem” Samantha’s voice began to crack.
Noticing the tells, Mark quickly rushes to her side.
“I-I-I have to fix this”
“I know hun, I know”
“I have to fix this for the colony, I have to fix this for Jason-“
“Its alright hun, but that’s where you are wrong” said Mark as he comforts Samantha. Pulling her close into his arms as she begins to break down into sobs.
“Jason will probably be able to fix this himself. The second generation are just as if not more educated than us. They will manage. They know more than us. They have been warned of our pitfalls, our failings, our weaknesses, the colony is in good hands, you should take a rest now. Put down tha- Put down that coffee, put down that notepad
Mark shepherds Samantha away to the bedroom, her mental state wasn’t doing well, a common state amongst all first generation Rillers. The loss of Earth and all your friends and family isn’t exactly minor trauma. Overworked and fraying nerves was something all colonists experienced daily for the first several decades as the stress of putting together a working colony from scratch took its toll. It didn’t help that Ark 1 was known to have not made it, Ark 2’s depressing message of complete failure was the only message received and Ark 4 was completely unaccounted for. 283 years of travel could have a lot of technical faults crop up. Any number of which would have ended Ark 4’s journey. Not exactly the success hoped for, but they landed on Aquaril’s lone planet. They survived. Humanity will live here. Humanity will live. But there were ghosts. So many ghosts.
After comforting Samantha, Mark walks back out to the kitchen to clean up. Passing a photograph, it catches his attention and causes pause. One of the few sentimental artifacts from planet earth in the house. A man with brown hair, Samantha, and a little girl. Her first husband and child. She moved on, everyone had to, people who freeze up in regret wouldn’t have been on the ship. She remarried to Mark, had a wonderful son Jason who is finishing up a doctorate in microbiology. Taking off after his mother. But the past haunts Mark every day, through all his actions, through all interactions with first generation colonists. Hopefully these ghosts wont slow the second generation down as it had theirs. A regretful shake of the head later, he goes back to clearing away the cups of half drunk and cold coffee. He had his own weaknesses as well. A quick guilty glance around to confirm he was alone. Mark furtively reaches for the false backing of the 2nd cupboard. Withdrawing a flask and taking a deep swig. Mark shudders and slowly collapses onto the floor as the hard home brewed liquor burns from within. Leaning against the fridge for support. So many ghosts. So many ghosts.
The centennial celebration of the colonization of Ril was thrown in gusto. Humanity had learned. An extreme aversion to conflict allowed a united humanity to progress at a rate unheard of in history. A golden age forty years. Advances unheard of, and once again, humanity had the resources and infrastructure to strike back out against the stars. Probes were launched to nearby star systems, colony ships were readied and once more the space race began a new.
No messages returned from Sol however, the silent graveyard of humanity. The Rillers were so desperate to find out what happened to the birthplace of humanity but the silence was deafening 22.5 years was the round trip duration for each message and hypothetical reply. It was infuriating, it was slow and thus an expedition was set up. With a top speed of 0.2c, the affectionately named ship Boomerang would take a crew of 132 individuals to determine what had happened to Sol. 120 years of expected travel to find out what became of earth. Perhaps a Mars colony survived and just didn’t have the infrastructure to broadcast back.
And so to great fanfare, the Boomerang returned back to the cradle.
“Mayday mayday, this is Captain Lutzville of the Boomerang, sending out our final message.”
“We have made contact with an unknown alien species currently occupying the Sol system, they are aggressive and do not answer our hails. We have attempted limited defences in launching our shuttles at them. Our engines have been disabled and they are beginning to board our ship”
“Confirmed visual of boarders. Bipedal, covered in loose, thick fur, large brow, larger jaw, what looks like a series of gills around their lipless mouths. Backs scaled with what appears to be dark plates. Dark green and maroon colouration overall with orange throughout. Significant cybernetic enhancements present throughout their bodies. Their speech to each other is in grunts, clicks and whistles both below and above our range of hearing. Beware if you spot these aliens, their intent is hostile. I repeat their intent is hostile. They are making their way to the bridge with cutter tools it appears, my time is short. Crew are unable to fend off the boarding party.”
“Earth is still a dead zone, according to long range scanners radiation levels are still lethal for us, but these aliens have taken root there and established themselves, their ships originated from a what looks like new colony built on earth. There are also signatures detected in Mars, Europa and the asteroid belt. We have lost Sol, may our ghosts haunts these abominations, may there be- oh shit, fucking kill the scale back, activate self destruct, confirm, captain overide, activate self destruct-shhhhhhhhhh“
The message is lost to the hiss of static signifying its premature end.
The Rillian response to the message was varied, many wanted to fight hard to prevent these monsters from desecrating earth. Some wanted to assign blame for not giving the Boomerang any weapons to defend itself. Many wanted peace, perhaps it was a misunderstanding, a failure to communicate effectively. Regardless, funds and resources began pooling together for a new expedition. An armada. This time they will be prepared. These aliens wanted war, they wanted to desecrate the graveyard of humanity? Well humanity has them sorted. The next decades saw construction of dozens of war ships, hundreds of fighters. Together they will form the first fleet of humanity and together they will create a beach head for further Rillian reinforcement. One capital class “battleship”, two capital class carriers, five destroyers and twelve frigates formed the first fleet. Humanity hasn’t seen war in generations, but the bloodlust of humanity can run deep…
Wormhole technology was mastered in the early 2500s. With it, one could slip matter between two “pinched” points in space-time near instantaneously. It just required a stable connection on both ends and power. A lot of power. Dozens of fusion plants operating in circuit. The first fleet would arrive and through fire and flame, establish a beach head on earth itself. A portal will be synced and power diverted from any of the three capital ships will supply the wormhole with enough energy to form a stable connection for further Rillian ground troop reinforcement. In an armoured exoskeleton to protect not just from enemy fire but also from the radiation of earth. These children of Aquaril will lead a purge of the xenos from the hallowed ground that is Earth. Rillers will fight as humanity once fought.
The story of Ark 3 is a long and funny one. After being decommissioned and running on a skeleton crew as a space station and satellite repair site for 200 years, it was being brought back into service to deliver humanity back. 500 years later, it was about to be launched back to Earth, from Ril this time. The timing would have been poetic if it wasn’t on purpose by the acting politicians. Forming the main engine and chassis upon which the first fleet can ride upon to still be combat ready after close to 80 years in flight and not deplete their fuel. Its engines and reactor core were refitted and updated. Boosted shielding was included to improve its forcefield size to cover the various smaller lamprey craft that nestle upon it. The capitals had sections carved out of the Ark to better fit the three larger ships that still pale in size to the mass of the colony ship, Ark 3. Ion drive engines were still the only economical way of traversing the stars and the newly christened “Deliverance” began the slow but constant acceleration while the crew all entered cryosleep, which over time had been improved and now had a 100% success rate of reawakening. The ion engines were efficient over long distances but their pitiful acceleration were no match for the fusion jet engines standard of the war fleet. It would be abandoned near Mars as the first fleet would race away towards earth.
Shock and awe. The Deliverance would intersect the solar system perpendicular, the first fleet will unload at a still blinding fast 0.01c, group up, and barrel towards earth to establish the wormhole link. Communication back with Aquaril was now instantaneous with the advent of wormhole technology. The ground troops will be ready. There will be war. The ghosts of humanity will be able to rest in peace.
“Railgun 4 is clear for fire” “Clear for fire copy. No friendlies downrange. Dampeners applied, insulators on, you are clear for fire, fire when ready.” “Fire!”
The capacitors dumped their power into the magnetic rail, the Lorentz force rips the solid titanium, tungsten, iron slug to mach 15. The forces deform the solid slug as massive acceleration forces are applied in the brief fraction of a second but the effect is all the same. It tears through space at a pace that still seems slow. Slow enough in the vastness of space for enemy ships to avoid. If it weren’t for the fact that shortly after leaving the railgun, another smaller, super heated, faster shot is slammed into the back of the slug at four times the speed. The kinetic forces in play break the slug into a super heated molten stream of metal and plasma that stretches across space with enough energy so even a small portion of it is capable of rendering immense destruction. The spread out net like quality also makes it hard to avoid.
The surprise factor and angle of attack took the scalebacks off guard completely. The Deliverance slams into a Mars space station with a multitude of warships docked at close to 0.01c, this removes the space station instantly and gamma rays released from the relativistic impact cleanse the nearby area and planet of life. The first fleet however are nowhere close, grouping up and bleeding speed they close in on Earth firing off rounds at the much slower moving and distant scale backs. The rail gun rounds are the only weapons that are capable of launching such distances. These pot shots are to deter and slow down response times from ships beyond earth from survivors around mars beyond around the asteroid belt. Slivers and fragments of hyper energized heavy metal particulates would wreck sensors and deal significant damage if not pilotted around. Further increasing travel times.
Contact is made with the scale backs. But no headway is made into their strange language of clicks and hisses. No surrender is offered as ships mobilize on and from around earth to defend the colony. It is good that the first fleet was ready for a bloody battle. The skies light up as the carriers unload fighters and bomber ships. The frigates provide important point defence fire augmenting the capital ship shields with their own. The destroyers unload masses of guiding missiles and ordinance that cover the extreme distances in stealth before detonating in a super heated burn cutting through thick ablative armour of the enemy ships. It wasn’t smooth. It wasn’t easy. A surprise flanking manoeuvre from the moon takes out one of the carriers and a number of destroyers and frigates but the power of initiative and surprise coupled with the extreme momentum from their interstellar journey gives the first fleet their hard earned victory as a short orbital bombardment begins.
The carrier descends through the atmosphere in a controlled fall. This was a one way trip for the capital ship as it doesn’t have the thrust capable of lifting back out beyond earth’s atmosphere from within its gravity well. Cutting through the ochre clouds and radioactive haze the ship touches down in what would have been the birthplace of the Nile in Sudan as per the outdated geopolitical maps from over 500 years ago. Several frigates also touch down around the carrier, locking down and becoming armoured fortresses to project forcefields around and over the carrier as the main warp gate within the carrier begins to power up and sync back with its sibling gate on the planet of Ril. Thousands of connections were made per second between the gates, they needed millions for full synchronization and unimpeded travel.
Sure enough, the Scaleback response was swift and harsh. Missiles were launched from what were assumed to be inactive sites in an unending rain at the carrier and the force fields were put under immense strain. The battleship and destroyers above would apply orbital bombardment from where the missiles launch from. Super-heated slugs tearing through installations as massive kinetic force tears the earth asunder. Hell on earth has come for a second round.
Aerial superiority was being maintained for now but ship movement was being detected from the asteroid belt and beyond, the Scalebacks were responding. Now it was a race, the more energy the carrier had to divert to shields, the slower the worm hole sync. The Rillians knew this, but the Scalebacks likely didn’t, they just attacked in force with brutality and strength that didn’t seem possible to be sourced from such a broken planet.
“Hello, can you understand me” a metallic voice rasped through the general comms. “Why are you here? Who are you? Why do you attack us?”
It was a synthetic voice, no doubt passing through a complex translator.
“I understand you. This is Admiral Xin. Ceasefire all guns.” Came the command and the guns went silent, with all power being diverted to the shields, shortly after, the Scaleback response died down as well.
The metallic voice begins again. “Why have you come back, you are not welcome here”
“Why? Why!? For this is our homeworld, this is our cradle, this is our birthright.” Replied the incredulous Admiral. She was never trained for diplomacy, just war tactics. But as the ultimate source of authority on this venture. The buck stops with her. And besides, this stalling was allowing the wormwhole to sync completely. Besides she was requesting experience and advice from experts on Ril in real time.
“It has taken us a while to decode the old language and then add in the new additions as your language has morphed. Doesn’t help that the language isn’t compatible with our mouths. You don’t realise it do you?” The metal voice would stutter and stop with awkward pauses.
“Realise what?” was the Admiral’s confused reply.
“This isn’t your home anymore, this is our home.”
“This isn’t your home, this is the graveyard of humanity. This is earth, where mankind’s terrible decisions ended humanity here”
“In a way you are right. Mankind as you know it did end here, in another way you are wrong. Humanity didn’t end here. We merely evolved and adapted”
“What are you saying, you cant possibly mean th-“
Cutting him off the metallic voice continues. “It was hard, the time of death. The ones who lived would burrow deep, but eventually even the most well stocked bomb shelter was inadequate when the radiation showed no signs of ending. And so we began to adapt. Modify ourselves if you will, it was the only way to eventually brave the surface and continue to live and not merely survive. Humanity in a way died here. Humanity can no longer live here. But we are still the remnants of humanity that remain. We fought, he struggled and once again we climbed for the stars. We are human.”
The admiral was shocked into silence, this allowed the voice to continue.
“I remember a video about your people, I remember watching footage of one of the arks slam into Jupiter. Good riddance, the weak, the cowardly would flee from earth and her problems. Only the strong adapt and survive. Only the strong survive. Only the strong. That ark burning up into Jupiter cemented our legacy, there is no escape, the problems here must be confronted only fools run or turn a blind eye. The debt of our past must be paid for, not run away from.”
“The-the wormhole is 100% synced admiral, awaiting orders” a petty officer whispers subvocally to the admiral. He is as shocked as any other in the command centre on the battleship. Both in the command centre and back on Ril, the chain of command was paralyzed by the developments. The deployment of reinforcements was held back by the revelations.
“You are, what was it, Rillians? or Rillers as you call yourself. We are Earthlings. This is our home. And you have some interesting technology there. Technology that will benefit humanity-The true humanity more. And so I would like to thank you for your gifts. My chief scientist informs me you know how to create a stable wormhole which is highly interesting. You see, we weren’t the only ones who rose back out of the grave. Various shelters had varying levels of success. Mostly Southern American shelters, Southern and central African ones and Australasian ones, the other areas are still too radioactive even for us, taking the brunt of the nuclear war. As for adaptations: mouth filters are fairly common, it gets rid of the radioactive dust before you breathe it in. The fur is pretty common as the perpetual nuclear winter meant its freezing everywhere, but we are the only ones who survive. The others were killed. For we are strong. And only the strong survive. The others… They get the short end of the Darwinian stick. We have fought and struggled non stop for 700 years. You have lost hundreds of years to travel and relativistic forces getting soft and weak by your perpetual easy life. Good bye Admiral, you weren’t the only one stalling. The moon cannon requires charging”
A plasma lance shot out from the moons surface from a hidden subsurface station. It cuts through the battleship, its forcefields and armour, with ease and dissipates in what is left of the pacific ocean. Tunnels open up from the ground all around and within the forcefields of the carrier and an unending swarm of ground troop Scalebacks swarm forth. Air superiority is lost within minutes as anti air batteries spring out from the once inert ground. Militarization of the middle of nowhere. Humanity had been at war with itself for hundreds of years and were more than prepared for the token resistance the Rillians put forth.
The Rillians couldn’t shut down the wormhole in time, the sync was complete and "humans" rushed through the wormhole onto Ril taking the confused troops stationed and waiting unaware. The portal once established is highly stable. The strength of its design became a fault as control was lost over both the carrier and the facility housing the wormhole on Ril. Thousands of invaders became hundreds of thousands. As the ‘humans’ went about their newest conquest. The ghosts of the past have come back to do more than just some haunting.
One of the shock troopers rushing through the wormhole yells out in a flurry of growls, clicks and whistles that loosely translates to “Death to the non humans!”
